Lamborgini Aventador J for US$ 2.74 (Full Pictures). What was your reaction when you first set eyes on a Lamborghini Countach? ‘Wow!’ is a probable candidate. Legend has it that ‘Countach’ is local Italian slang ‘Wow!’, or a similar sentiment, which explains the name. Lamborghini has had its fair share of ‘wow’ cars, and has just introduced another: the Lamborghini Aventador J is perhaps the most sensational model ever to leave the factory. This is, quite simply, sensational.
Lamborghini Aventador J – What’s so Special?
Have a look: it’s a two seat, roofless supercar that lacks even a windscreen! It’s made from a special carbon fibre – called ‘Carbonskin’ – that allows for incredible light weight yet amazing chassis strength. It is powered by the astonishing 6.5liter, 700bhp engine that is found in the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, and it is quite wonderful in every way. Who could fail to like something as simply glorious as this?Lamborghini presents the Lamborghini Aventador J as a technical showcase, and there are many reasons why they should be applauded for doing so. Motor car technology is evolving still, yet in a world where the emphasis is on hybrids, electric cars and alternative fuels, it is somehow reassuring to us petrolheads (that’s shorthand for environmentally reckless supercar fans) that Lamborghini continues to look to massive, super-powerful internal combustion engines for the answer.
Lamborghini Aventador J – What’s The ‘J’ All About?
It’s a curious thing, yes? The addition of a ‘J’ to the Aventador name is seemingly random, but in fact there is reason behind the choice of letter. Another legendary Lamborghini was the Jota, a 1970 masterpiece based on the stunning Miura. The Jota was a thorough revision of the Miura, and inspired others to modify their own cars to suit.Like the Aventador J, confusion reigns as to whether there was one Jota built, or more. The consensus is that there was only one true Jota – and that this car was destroyed in an accident in the early 1970′s – but there were a number of Miura’s later converted to Jota specifications. The mystery will, perhaps, never be solved.
This brings us to the question you will surely be asking about the Aventador J: can I buy one? To be honest we are not sure. There are reports on the internet that the car will enter (limited) production, but the romantic and inspirational official Lamborghini Press Release, published at the cars unveiling during the Geneva Motor Show, concludes with this intriguing paragraph:
“However, at the end of the Geneva Motor Show, this sight will be the preserve of just one – the future owner of the Lamborghini Aventador J. There is only one of them, no prototypes and no others for the Lamborghini Museum. The buyer can look forward to a truly unique, street-legal work of art. He will possess the most extreme expression of Lamborghini DNA in existence and a real masterpiece of high technology. But the many other fans of the super sports cars from Sant’Agata Bolognese can rest assured – the Aventador success story has only just begun.”
No, we are none the wiser either. We can only conclude that there is one, and one only, Aventador J, and we have heard that it has already been sold. The price, we are told, is a colossal $2.76million (£1.75million) which puts it firmly in Bugatti Veyron territory.
Lamborghini Aventador J – What Can The New Owner Expect?
Well, first and foremost, he (or she?) can expect a thrilling ride. This is no luxury tourer, this is a stripped out, pure and simple supercar, with no frills included. As the official release, tells us:“The Aventador J is equipped neither with a navigation nor car audio system, nor does it have the associated screen or air conditioning controls – these would simply detract from its one and only raison d’ĂȘtre as an extreme driving experience.”
Wow! $2.76 million and you don’t even get a CD player? That is, we have to say, radical! Furthermore, there are special see-through sections in the engine cover, so that onlookers can watch the mighty V12 at work! What else is there? Upward opening doors – a Lamborghini standard these days – plus 186mph performance, in a car that doesn’t even have a windscreen! Refer to the official statement again for a witty piece of advice reading: ‘If you want a free facial massage don’t wear a helmet while you drive this machine.’
Lamborghini Aventador J – Red, And Proud of it!
The one and only (so far) Aventador J is presented in red – very bright, very bold red – with the contrasting black of the carbon fibre and minimalist chrome trimmings adding to the effect. Now, to be fair, red is a colour associated with that other Italian legend, Ferrari. Has Lamborghini chosen the colour deliberately, as a thumb on the nose to its long term rival? That would please the old founder, Ferruccio Lamborghini, who began making cars as a riposte to his disappointment at ‘unrefined’ models from the Maranello factory. The poignancy of the colour, and the car, is timely, given that Ferrari also launched a landmark vehicle at Geneva, the F12 Berlinetta. It, too, is red, but it is confirmed as a production model.
The Aventador J, however, is a different kind of car to the F12. To be fair, it’s a different kind of car to just about every other car in the world today. It’s unique, it’s wonderful and it is absolutely the sort of car we want to see. We leave you with another snippet from Lamborghini’s quite wonderful press release – and this says it all: “Every kilometer with the Lamborghini Aventador J is extreme fun.”
